The Berry Best

Nothing says summer like an overflowing basket of fresh, sweet berries. All you have to add is Sunset Gourmet for sensational, easy to prepare recipes....


Start your day with a healthy breakfast. Adding fresh blueberries to our natural WHOLE WHEAT, OAT & HONEY FLAPJACK AND WAFFLE MIX is a perfect start to any day whether you are enjoying a weekend at the cottage or trailer or spending some precious family time at home. Stop by your local market for fresh blueberries and then all you need to do is add water to the pancake mix. What could be easier??

BLUEBERRY PANCAKES
1 cup WHOLE WHEAT, OAT & HONEY FLAPJACK AND WAFFLE MIX
1 cup water
1/2 cup blueberries
fresh berries of your choice

Blend WHOLE WHEAT, OAT & HONEY FLAPJACK AND WAFFLE MIX, water and blueberries together; do not over beat batter. Pour 1/4 cup batter on a preheated, lightly oiled griddle set at medium. Flip pancakes after bubbles stop forming and bottom side is golden. Cook other side. Serve with fresh strawberries, blueberries and raspberries.
 

Blueberries get their distinctive colour from anthocyanin, a powerful antioxidant. They are also great source of vitamin C. With just 80 calories per cup and virtually no fat, blueberries offer many nutritional benefits.


TOASTED HOT PEPPER RASPBERRY BAGELS
Cut bagels in half, toast and spread with low fat cream cheese. Top with HOT PEPPER RASPBERRY PRESERVES. Cut into wedges for a great appetizer, snack or breakfast.

FRUIT SALAD
2 cups blueberries
2 cups Granny Smith apples, cut into chunks
2 cups strawberries, sliced
2 cups fresh pineapple, chopped
2 cups red seedless grapes, halved
1 cup pecans

Dressing
1/3 cup HOT PEPPER RASPBERRY PRESERVES
1/3 cup CREAMY VIDALIA ONION & POPPY SEED DRESSING

In a large bowl, combine all fruit and toss with dressing. Serve on a bed of fresh leaf lettuce. Top with pecans.

TROPICAL PARFAIT
2 cups Cool Whip
2 cups vanilla yogurt
1/2 cup TROPICAL PINA COLADA DRINK MIX
1/2 cup crushed pineapple, well drained
1/2 cup strawberries, sliced
1/2 cup blueberries

Combine all ingredients and spoon into parfait glasses. Parfaits can be made with regular or low fat Cool Whip and yogurt.
